Metro Vancouver police have identified a man shot dead on March 13.

Aren Smith was found dead in a parked vehicle by Surrey RCMP after reports of multiple gunshots. He was discovered around 7:54 p.m. in the 2300 block of 167A Street, in the Grandview Heights neighbourhood.

"Mr. Smith is unknown to police and has no known ties to the ongoing Lower Mainland Gang Conflict," states the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). "Mr. Smith and his family had recently moved to Surrey."

While the motive for Smith's death is still being investigated, police do have a lead on a suspect. They believe whoever it was left the area in a white Penske Ford Transit van.

IHIT and the Surrey RCMP are now looking for dash cam footage, CCTV, security videos, and witnesses who may have seen something in the area.

"Specifically, investigators are seeking CCTV and dash cam footage from areas in the 2300-block of 168 Street and Highway 10 near 144 Street in Surrey, for a white Penske Ford Transit van on March 13, 2023 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.," states IHIT.

Anyone who has information about Smith's death is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 (IHIT) or email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Anonymous tips can be called to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
