The NHL trade deadline may have passed but West Vancouver police are still looking to move some superstar players.
Police seized more than 70 high-value hockey cards from suspects in a recent break-and-enter investigation that they’d like to see returned to their home team.
Among them, a Jaromír Jágr rookie card, a signed Evgeni Malkin and Guy Lafleur and Tony Esposito cards from the 1970.
“And they’re in mint condition from what I can see,” said Const. Kevin Goodmurphy, West Vancouver police spokesman.
Goodmurphy said he hopes word of the cache of stolen cards makes its way to the sports memorabilia community, because finding the owner may be difficult.
“We understand that the person they were seized from may have travelled from the other side of the country. We don’t know at what point the person picked them up so it’s a bit of a needle in a haystack,” he said.
Anyone wanting to claim the cards should have detailed knowledge about the collection, Goodmurphy said.
On Feb. 8, two suspects led police on a chase around the North Shore. Officers slowed their getaway with a spike belt, but not before one of the suspects tossed a loaded shotgun out of his truck on Highway 1.
Adam Douglas Zinck has since been charged with breaking and entering and Alexander James Eaton has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from police.
