The RCMP is investigating a pepper-spraying incident outside a Richmond school following a senior boys volleyball game.

The attack happened around 9 p.m. last Thursday outside McRoberts secondary – close to Williams and Garden City roads – moments after the school’s senior boys volleyball game against Richmond secondary.

An eye witness told the Richmond News that several people were leaving the school’s gym when a car apparently drove by before someone “began pepper spraying students leaving the gym.”

The person said he understood that some of the students were taken to hospital as a result of the spraying, but police told the News that no one was seriously injured or hospitalized.

Police called after "verbal altercation"

Richmond RCMP did confirm that it was called out after a 17-year old male was pepper-sprayed after “a verbal altercation with a male suspect.”

The suspect, added police, then fled in a dark-coloured Acura.

“Some of the parties involved in this incident are known to each other,” said the RCMP.

“We are actively investigating this matter and are following up on several leads.”
