Update Sept. 8, 2022: A 22-year-old Vancouver man now faces multiple charges in connection with the fatal collision.

The investigation into the deaths of two 18-year-old UBC students is continuing.

The pair died around 1:30 a.m. Sept. 26 while walking at the university when a car veered off the road and struck the pair. A 21-year-old male was arrested at the scene, according to the UBC RCMP, after the vehicle hit a parked car and stopped near where the two were struck.

Now Mounties are releasing new details about the vehicle in the hopes more witnesses will come forward.

"Investigators are seeking to speak to any witnesses who may have observed this vehicle prior to the collision, and are also seeking dash-cam video recording the suspect vehicle driving in the area of UBC, Pacific Spirit Park and Vancouver between midnight and 1:30 a.m.," they state in a press release.

The vehicle was a light silver/grey 2004 BMW X3 2.5i SUV. It has aftermarket rims.

The driver of the SUV had to be taken to the hospital due to minor injuries. He was released with conditions as the investigation continues.

"Police are continuing to investigate whether speed, alcohol or drug impairment are factors in this collision," state the RCMP.

The UBC detachment is being assisted by the RCMP's provincial major crimes unit, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services, the coroners' service and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.
