Founded in 1971, Queens Avenue Daycare is closing June 24.

The Queens Avenue Daycare Society is inviting community members to participate in the closure of the daycare in a couple of ways.

Queens Avenue Daycare is having a closing sale on Saturday, June 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 529 Queens Ave. Everything from cubbies to craft supplies, bikes to bookshelves, and lockers to light tables and Lego is being cleared out.

“We will be selling everything. Everything has to go,” said QADC director Stephanie Erdelyi. “All children’s books are free – everybody is allowed to take five books. Everything else will be for sale.”

Dolls (including racially diverse dolls), musical instruments, toy trains, building blocks, children’s cots water tables, plastic animals and people, bulletin board borders, easels, seasonal items including Christmas trees and ornaments, baskets and bins, rugs are among the items being sold.

Because the non-profit society is being dissolved, all items must be sold.

“Anything we have left gets donated to a not-for-profit,” said Alissa Foss, secretary of the society’s board of directors. “We are not doing a sale to make more money, but there are closing things that we have to cover and take care of. We have to make sure we can pay all our staff out.”

Making memories

The Queens Avenue Daycare Society’s board of directors is also inviting QADC families – past and present – to participate in a digital memory book that’s being put together for teachers. Folks are invited to share memories or photos of their experiences at the daycare, which will be preserved in a keepsake memory book for staff.

“If you're reading this, Queens Avenue Daycare has had an impact on you or your child's lives. With the upcoming closure of the daycare, we thought a collection of memories, well wishes, photos and kind words would be a touching keepsake for the staff of QADC,” said a notice from the QADC board of directors. “With its long history in New Westminster, Queens Avenue has been providing amazing and affordable childcare for generations of families and will be deeply missed.”
