Newmarket-Tay Power is reporting a large outage in Newmarket but is working towards a fix.

The local power company said July 9 that it has dispatched crews to investigate around 8:53 p.m. Residents reported outages on social media around College Manor Drive, Leslie Valley Drive, as well as around Elgin Mills Road and Leslie Street.

The company said there was no obvious cause for an outage after patrolling the lines.

The outage comes with Newmarketers and others recovering from a national Rogers outage that left many without internet or cell service on July 8. Rogers has indicated it had restored much of its networks this morning, though some reported still waiting for it to return.

“Power is out, nice touch,” one Newmarket resident said on Facebook. “I don’t have to stress out that my home internet is still down.”

"Is this some kind of cruel joke?" another resident said.
