A missed lane signal for a driver heading on to the Lions Gate Bridge early Saturday (Oct. 15) morning resulted in the seizure of drugs and a set of brass knuckles by the North Vancouver RCMP.
Police officers stopped the older model Chrysler sedan for a traffic violation shortly after midnight, early Saturday morning, as the driver headed onto the bridge from Marine Drive, said Sgt. Peter DeVries, spokesperson for the North Vancouver RCMP.
When officers walked over to speak with the driver, a 43-year-old Vancouver man, they saw a pair of brass knuckles (a prohibited weapon) in plain view in the vehicle, said DeVries.
Subsequent investigation revealed a small amount of a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Police seized the drugs and brass knuckles. They were later destroyed, said DeVries.
DeVries said police do frequently pull over drivers for a variety of traffic violations – from speeding to not wearing a seatbelt. Sometimes that results in a surprise.
Last Halloween, police in West Vancouver pulled over a 19-year-old Honda driver going almost 150 kilometres an hour in a 90 km/h zone. He subsequently failed a roadside screening test. Officers also discovered the driver was carrying a replica Glock-style airsoft pistol and brass knuckles in his jacket pocket.
