North Vancouver senior Earle MacDonald has penned the following poem as a tribute to front-line workers.
“I have been admiring and praising our brave, unrelenting workers who are making a supreme sacrifice for their fellow man,” MacDonald writes. “I am submitting my poem to let them know how much we appreciate their determination and unrelenting efforts for all the people.
With the publication of his poem, he continues, “It is my hope to let them know that we could not be prouder and love them more.”
To All Our Brave Workers
People sometimes say
That I’m not the brightest light.
But the one thing that’s for sure
We cannot give up the fight.
Holy Jeepers Creepers
This virus is so hard for us to believe.
If we didn’t know any better
We’d think the Devil had something up his sleeve.
This terrible virus thing
Is all that we surmised.
It is time to take it seriously
So we can all survive.
Now is not the time
To try and place the blame.
Let us put our heads together
Because the virus is not a game.
Very often in the past
It all seemed to be about “ME.”
For us to be successful
The word “WE” should be the key.
When we think of our superstars
Performers and athletes used to come to mind.
But ever since the virus
Health workers, police, fireman and many more, are at the top of the line.
We are so indebted to our workers
You have shown to be real tough.
Throughout this whole traumatic time
You’ve proven you have the “right stuff.”
If our workers had a theme song
The Hollies’ “He Ain’t Heavy” comes to mind.
For you set such a fine example
And you couldn’t be more kind.
So here’s to all our brave workers
Who have been there from the start.
We really can’t thank you enough
And we love you with all our heart.
