The case of a woman accused in a fatal stabbing in Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood is moving to a pretrial conference, a Vancouver provincial court judge heard May 29.

Such a move is indicative of a not guilty plea.

The Vancouver Police Department said July 19, 2022 that Lindsay Scott was charged with second-degree murder and assault in the death of Justin Mohrman.

The 29-year-old man was walking near Smithe and Homer streets around 8:30 a.m. July 11 when he was stabbed. 911 was called and he was taken to hospital.

Defence lawyer John Turner told Judge James Sutherland Nov. 23 Scott’s mental state at the time of the allegations is an issue. And, in January, Judge Patrick Doherty ordered the assessment.

Police said at the time there was no evidence to suggest the victim and the attacker knew each other.

“We believe they were strangers,” Sgt. Steve Addison said.

Police arrested Scott shortly after the incident at Main and Hastings.

Scott returns to court June 2 to set the pre-trial conference date.

She has been in custody at Maple Ridge’s Alouette Correctional Centre for Women.
