While the largest and longest-running tulip festival in Western Canada won't be open to the public this spring, one lucky winner has a chance to enjoy the fields of vibrant blooms all to themself.
Each year, The Abbotsford Tulip Festival welcomes thousands of visitors to marvel at thousands of brightly-coloured tulips spread over a ten-acre area. However, the festival was cancelled earlier this month due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alexis Szarek-Warmerdam Owner, Bloom, the Abbotsford Tulip Festival, stated that the festival typically draws over 100,000 people annually. As such, they cancelled the festival to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Provincial Health Officer regarding prohibiting events greater than 50 people.
"We look forward to the day when we can welcome you again in-person. Please remember, even through the cloudiest days we will all bloom again," said Szarek-Warmerdam.
With the bad news in mind, organizers say that one lucky person, couple or family living under the same roof will have the chance enjoy an empty field all to themselves if they win the new Bloom contest.
The prize includes the following:
3 hours of alone time in the tulip field, Including either sunrise or sunset, whichever is preferred
Bring their own bucket (one) for all they can pick
