One man in his 30s is dead after the car he was driving hit a tree near Jericho Beach Park.

The Vancouver Police Department was first alerted to the situation when drivers called in about someone driving erratically on West 4 Avenue yesterday, Oct. 10. At 9 p.m. they received reports a car had collided with a tree near the intersection of Northwest Marine Drive and West 4.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man was declared dead at the scene.

“Speed was definitely a factor in this tragic incident,” says Const. Tania Visintin in a press release. “Our Collision Investigation Unit is investigating to determine if there were any other contributing factors.”

As part of the investigation, the police are asking witnesses to contact them. Anyone who saw the vehicle or who knows more about the incident is asked to call the collision unit at 604-717-3012.
