Passenger in critical condition after Burnaby crash

Police believe impairment was a factor in a Metrotown crash that saw a vehicle slam into a parked semi early Sunday morning.

Police are investigating a serious crash in Metrotown early Sunday morning.

Burnaby RCMP is investigating a serious collision that sent one person to hospital in critical condition early Sunday morning. 

Just before 1:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Imperial Street just east of Willingdon Avenue, according to an RCMP news release.

A vehicle occupied by a driver and two passengers was travelling eastbound on Imperial Avenue when it struck a parked semi truck, the release said. 

One passenger was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and is in critical condition.

Police believe impairment was a factor in the crash, according to the release. 

Burnaby RCMP’s criminal collision investigation team (CCIT) has assumed conduct of the investigation with assistance of the Lower Mainland integrated collision analysis and reconstruction service (ICARS).

Anyone who witnessed the crash or might have video in the area of Imperial Street and Willingdon Avenue between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Sunday is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999. Quote file 2024-7300.
