Photos: Here's a peek inside the new PriceSmart grocery store in Vancouver

Nesters is gone from Broadway and Main

The signs have changed and different products are on the shelves of a Mount Pleasant grocery store.

On May 7, 2025, the Nesters Market at the corner of Main Street and Broadway closed and on May 8 the same space opened as a new PriceSmart Foods. Changes at the store include Chinese-language signs and new products.

Both brands are owned by the Pattison Food Group. The company also owns the Save-On-Foods store in Kingsgate Mall (which used to be a Buy-Low) across the road from PriceSmart.

The transformation of Nesters into PriceSmart matches changing demographics, according to a press release from PriceSmart.

"As the Asian community in Metro Vancouver continues to grow, PriceSmart Foods aims to offer new taste traditions to its customers with great value on the authentic products they are looking for," reads the release.

While the brands are changing, the store management and staff remain the same.

“We are so excited to complete the conversion from Nesters Market to PriceSmart Foods to better serve our diverse neighbours in Vancouver,” said Jamie Nelson, president of Pattison Food Group, in the release.

While the rebranded store opened on May 8, signs at the store advertise a grand opening on Saturday, May 10, with a Lion Dance at 1 p.m.
