A rental room with a private deck for $580 in Vancouver's West End? Yes, but it's tiny

Would you go for it?

Most would expect the rent for a private room with a private deck in Vancouver's West End to be at least a little pricey.

In this case, the den, in a two-bedroom apartment, is $580 a month.

While the price may be attractive, the space may not be for everyone. A Craigslist ad for the room shows a tiny room with just enough space for a twin-sized bed, a small table and some small shelves. The tiny room does come with a special feature though.

"1 den for rent furnished with bed and desk," states the ad. "Private room with door and walls and private balcony!"

To be clear, the special feature we're referring to is the balcony, not the door and walls.

The south-facing deck is an unusual feature for a cheap place to live in Vancouver, though it's not the most spectacular deck in the city. The view you get is one story above Eihu Lane, an alley just off Denman Street.

Another unusual feature of the room is its location in the apartment; in the photos, it appears one would have to walk through the kitchen to get to the den.

While the sleeping space may be small in the shared unit, some will find the location ideal, with a Safeway nearby and Denman Street's amenities.
