The 2020 PNE might be cancelled, but the Prize Home is still up for grabs (PHOTOS)

One of the biggest draws year after year at the annual Fair at the PNE is always the Prize Home

One of the biggest draws year after year at the annual Fair at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) is always the Prize Home.

The state-of-the-art show home is a venerable tradition at the Fair, with long lines of looky-loos taking tours each day, with hopeful prospective homeowners taking a chance and buying tickets to be entered to win.

For 2020, while the Fair as we know it isn't going to happen due to the COVID-19 crisis and restrictions on large gatherings in the province, the stunning Prize Home is still available, and tickets have just gone on sale.

Up for grabs is the 3,188-square-foot modern home that will be re-located to Pemberton in the Sunstone development after the draw for the winner in September.

A few key details about this impressive dwelling:

"Defined as a Net Zero Ready home, this year’s three-bedroom and 2.5-bath chalet style home is one of a select few that holds the distinction of being able to produce as much energy as it consumes. Being Net-Zero Ready also means the house features high-performance windows and doors as well as better insulated walls that can reduce electricity use by up to 80 per cent, reduce allergens and asthma triggers and even minimize outside noise.

Additionally, the Home features an open plan dining/living room, a luxurious kitchen with top-grade JennAir and Whirlpool appliances from Coast Appliances, and stylish indoor furniture from Yaletown Interiors."

The Prize Home winner not only gets the residence but also a few other bonuses: a robotic lawnmower, the Automower®, by Husqvarna, which comes with additional battery-powered yard equipment, and a Coast Spas Lifestyles outdoor living package that includes a deluxe hot tub and indoor two-person sauna.

Altogether, the Prize Home grand prize package is worth over $2 million.

“Although the cancellation of the annual PNE Fair this August means that guests won’t be able to tour the home as part of the annual Fair experience, the important practice of giving away a home must continue and we will look at alternate ways for people to be able to experience this amazing home,” says Shelley Frost, President and CEO of the PNE. “Continuing with the Prize Home Lottery is crucial for the financial health of our non-profit organization but it’s also important to tens of thousands of British Columbians for whom it represents not only an end of summer tradition but an important part of their family memories.”

For its 86th year, the PNE Prize Home tradition is trading in the usual in-person tours for a virtual peek at the house, which always shows off the latest developments in home design and technology.

Did you know that back in 1934, the PNE was the first organization in North America to raffle off a home?

That raffle has now grown into quite the enticing draw; this year there are other prizes entrants have the chance to win, including 1-of-5 $5,000 travel vouchers from Air Transat (no expiry dates), 1-of-5 vehicles from Brian Jessel BMW, 1-of-5 cash prizes, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle from Trev Deeley, and the Ultimate Pemberton Getaway Experience package.

Tickets are available in the following bundles: two tickets for $25, six tickets for $50, and 15 tickets for $100. Purchase online or by phone at 604-252-3688 or toll-free at 1-877-946-4663. The call centre is open Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The final day for ticket sales will be Labour Day (September 7), with the draws happening one week later, on September 14, 2020.
