Several police vehicles were still on scene at Burnaby Mountain Secondary Thursday afternoon after a "possible threat" put the school into hold and secure shortly after 10 a.m.

A Burnaby high school was locked down and one youth taken into custody after an online threat Thursday.

Police were made aware of an online threat about Burnaby Mountain Secondary School, and seven police vehicles descended on the school at about 10:15 a.m., according to Burnaby RCMP.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed into a lockdown,” stated a police news release Thursday evening.

A youth, identified as a “person of interest,” was taken into custody, and the lockdown was lifted shortly before noon, with classes resuming in the afternoon.

Police said an investigation into the incident is in the early stages, and no details were provided about the online threat.

“The Burnaby RCMP would like to thank the Burnaby school district for its assistance in this matter. Our investigation remains active and ongoing,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release.
