A woman was sent to hospital last night with a gunshot wound after an incident at a Guildford home.

Emergency Health Services were called to the scene before midnight last night and called Surrey RCMP upon arrival according to a release from the RCMP.

"Frontline officers arrived and located a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to the hospital in serious condition," states the RCMP in the release.

The suspect had fled the scene before police arrived. However, investigators believe the two knew each other and there's no risk to the general public.

While police believe the drug trade is a part of the incident, they don't believe it's linked to the ongoing conflict between Lower Mainland gangs.

Anyone with tips is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477 if you wish to remain anonymous.
