Police respond to report of explosive device found in East Vancouver

Explosive experts confirmed the object was an inert and non-functional grenade

On Saturday, Sept. 25, Vancouver Police Department responded to reports of a grenade found on the curb in the area of Commercial Drive and Venables Street.

The Vancouver Police Department recently responded to a report of an explosive device found in East Vancouver.

The VPD received the call from a witness around 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 25) describing what looked to be a grenade on the curb in the area of Commercial Drive and Venables Street. 

Patrol officers, as well as VPD’s Emergency Response Team, attended and closed off the surrounding streets as a precaution. Explosive experts confirmed the object was an inert and non-functional grenade.

“There is absolutely no threat to public safety at this time,” said VPD spokesperson Tania Visintin.
