Poll: Is Vancouver a fan of Toronto or Seattle baseball?

While Vancouverites often share a distaste for Toronto things, the Jays win here.

Blue Jays fans gather near the field in the Seattle Mariners home, T-Moblie Park.

As the song goes, "Let me root, root, root for the home team," but what happens when there's no home team?

Despite a long history, there is no top-level baseball team in Vancouver. The Canadians play in the minor league system as a High Single-A team; that's a couple of tier outside the majors.

So for those interested in the majors, there's a question every Vancouver baseball fan must ask: who's your team?

While there are fans of many teams in the city (including the Dodgers, Yankees, and Red Sox), two make sense for the "home team."

You've got "Canada's Team" in the Toronto Blue Jays, who are on this side of the Canada-US border but play a couple of time zones over, and there are the Seattle Mariners, who are less than 200 km away (or less than 125 miles).

For the Mariners, this often turns their home field into a neutral space when the Jays visit, as thousands of Canadians from western Canada cross the border to watch a game or two.

So we asked people to pick one. Ken Griffey Jr. or Roberto Alomar, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Julio Rodriguez, Skydome or Kingdome (RIPs) T-Mobile Park?

Vancouver Is Awesome polled 547 readers and asked the question: Which baseball team do you cheer for?

The poll ran from 7/14/2022 to 7/19/2022. Of the 547 votes, we can determine that 242 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Seattle Mariners 28.93 % local, 26.87 % total
Toronto Blue Jays 71.07 % local, 73.13 % total

Results are based on an online study of adult Vancouver Is Awesome readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 4.19%, 19 times out of 20.
