The BC Conservation Officer Service recently rescued a porcupine from the middle of the Coquihalla Highway.
The critter had somehow got trapped between the dividers and was "attracting much attention and posing a risk to itself and traffic".

Typically the only predators these creatures have in B.C. are cougars and lynx, and they're threatened by wildfires as well as vehicle traffic (this reporter has seen two of them dead in ditches in the past year).
Covered in 30,000 quills, the rescue operation was a delicate one. After they extracted Mr Prickly from the roadway they returned him to the forest, "a short ways away".
It's unclear as to why he decided to attempt the crossing.
