A 69-year-old Qualicum Beach resident had a Tesla impounded for seven days and was fined $483 for excessive speed after being clocked at 160 kilometres per hour in a 70 km/h zone.

The driver was travelling along Rupert Road Monday afternoon when an Oceanside RCMP officer measured the speed with radar.

“Driving 90 kph over the speed limit is extremely dangerous, and speeding severely impacts your ability to control your vehicle,” said Sgt. Shane Worth. “It is fortunate the driver did not come across any other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists at the time, as it would have been extremely difficult for them to have taken any required evasive action.”
