The Richmond Night Market received funding from the Government of Canada as part of Small Business Week.

Firework Productions Limited, which operates the Richmond Night Market, received $99,000 to "re-establish and promote the annual" night market, according to a Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan) media release.

The night market is a "key attraction in the community" and one of the largest in North America, according to the release.

Minister of International Development and Minister of PacifiCan Harji Sajjan announced a $1.2 million in funding to 11 projects led by small businesses in the B.C. tourism sector to help grow the industry.

The funding is to help small businesses recover from the pandemic, according to the media release.

Money for the small grants is provided through the federal government's Tourism Relief Fund, which provides $500 million over two years to Canada's regional development agencies to help tourism businesses and organizations grow and meet public health requirements simultaneously.

Small Business Week celebrates the resilience of small- and medium-sized businesses in B.C, said Sajjan in a media statement.

"With these investments, the Government of Canada is supporting B.C.'s tourism sector, helping those hit hardest emerge from the pandemic stronger than ever," he said.

"From launching new festivals and tours to reinvigorating old favourites, these investments will help small businesses showcase the dynamic experiences B.C. has to offer – for locals who know them well and visitors who are discovering them for the very first time."
