Richmond-based powerlifter Sumeet Sharma was delighted to hear the news that he has been selected to represent Canada for the world’s powerlifting championship in Kazakhstan this fall.

“I was notified by the International Powerlifting Federation two weeks ago. It has been a huge honour and privilege to represent Canada and compete on the global stage,” said Sharma, who is keeping his fingers crossed the event won’t get cancelled again this fall.

Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic cost Sharma his chance to fight in the Czech Republic for the world’s powerlifting championship.

Although he wasn’t able to showcase his talents on the world’s stage, he turned his attention to working with his friends to donate refreshments and nourishment to frontline workers across Metro Vancouver.

Sharma admitted it could sometimes be challenging to stay motivated to exercise at home alone.

However, he highly recommends people keep working out, such as going for a run, watching YouTube videos to keep practicing and doing exercise in the backyard.

“Workout isn’t only beneficial for your physical health but also good for improving your mental health,” added Sharma.
