A new scam in Vancouver involves people coming to homes to collect credit or debit cards.

The Vancouver Police Department is warning about a new scam it's seeing.

It involves scammers calling people and posing as bank employees. They convince the victim to hand over their physical debit and credit cards.

"Victims are contacted on the phone and told that either their debit or their credit cards have been compromised," says Det. Anna Grigoletto in a video. "Scammers will have someone drop by your house to pick up either your debit or credit cards."

Along with the physical cards, the scammers will convince victims to pass along personal information, including their PIN.

"Once they have your information, they will take your card, drain your accounts, and they're gone," Grigoletto adds.

She cautions people against responding to these types of calls and instead suggests individuals visit their bank to check on whether their information has been compromised. More information about fraud prevention can be found on the VPD's website.
