Vancouver police responded to the Downtown Eastside after a security guard was stabbed with a needle by a stranger.

A security guard working in the Downtown Eastside was stabbed with a hypodermic needle by a stranger Thursday (Feb. 23), reports the Vancouver Police Department.

VPD officers responded to Main and Hastings streets around 4:30 p.m. after the security guard was stabbed in the arm.

The stabbing suspect, 38-year-old Cheyenne Harvey, allegedly refused to drop the needle when officers arrived. Police used a "less-lethal beanbag" shotgun during the arrest, according to a VPD media release.

The 62-year-old victim was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Harvey was charged with aggravated assault and remains in custody until her next court appearance.
