Police are investigating after a woman was shot in the Downtown Eastside.

A 39-year-old woman is in the hospital with serious injuries after being shot sometime overnight.

The woman, already wounded, approached a passerby just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 11 near the intersection of Main Street and East Cordova, according to police. The VPD was contacted and provided first aid as soon as they arrived.

An ambulance was also called and the woman was taken to a hospital where she's being treated for serious injuries, note the VPD.

"Investigators believe the shooting likely occurred in the Downtown Eastside but have been unable to obtain further details from the victim due to her injuries," state police in a media release.

It's believed to be the third shooting in or around the Downtown Eastside in less than a week; police are investigating two other incidents that left two men with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Sunday, Aug. 7, police were called to a social housing building at West Pender and Richards streets around midnight. There were reports a man had gone inside and shot someone. The victim, a 34-year-old man, fled the scene and was later found in the Downtown Eastside.

On Tuesday, Aug. 9, a 38-year-old man was shot near his home at COmmercial Drive and Graveley Street.

The VPD is investigating whether the shootings are linked. In all three incidents, police say no arrests have been made.

"Witnesses, or anyone with information about these cases, is asked to call VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541," state police.
