A “short-lived” heat wave is set to hit Richmond and Metro Vancouver this weekend.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Saturday morning warning temperatures will be five to 10 degrees above seasonal starting on Father’s Day (June 20). The heat wave will last through Monday.
“The current guidance indicates that the day time temperatures will peak in the low-thirties through Monday at locations away from the immediate coast,” reads the weather statement.
“The ridge associated with this warm spell will start shifting inland on Tuesday, ushering the hot air into the Interior.”
The weather statement is in effect for:
- Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
- Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
- Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
- Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
- Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
The heat wave is also expected to hit the Fraser Valley, Howe Sound, Whistler, the Sunshine Coast, the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island.
