A man is dead after police say he was found lying in a parking lot of the Vancouver Golf Club with gunshot wounds.

University RCMP received reports of a shooting at the University Golf Club at about 9:49 a.m. on Monday.

Once on the scene, officers located a man suffering gunshot wounds and he succumbed to his injuries.

RCMP from the University detachment were on scene Monday morning and into the afternoon; they’ve taped off the course’s parking lot and are focusing on a white Porsche with its trunk open. Nearby lies a white tarp covering what appears to be a body, with a blue tent set up over top.

A spokesperson with UBC notes it's believed to have been a "targeted incident" and say the RCMP have told them there is no risk to the public.

A staff member with the golf course would not confirm reports online that gunshots had been heard in the area. However, due to the police presence, the course is closed for the day, confirms the employee.

A few people have gathered, curious about what's going on.

Homicide investigators believe there is no risk to the public.

"The victim has been identified, but their name is not being released at this time, as investigators work to notify the family,” says Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, media relations officer with IHIT.

Around the same time as the police incident at UBC, a car on fire was reported not far away, near the intersection of West 21st Avenue and Crown Street, according to the Vancouver Police Department. They state they're working to "determine if the fire is related to any other events."

In an email to Vancouver Is Awesome the VPD say they're looking for witnesses or anyone who has any information about the fire to call detectives at 1-604-717-2541.

“IHIT is aware of vehicle fire that occurred in Vancouver shortly after the shooting and is looking for witnesses that can help confirm if it’s related to the homicide,” says Pierotti. “We are appealing to anyone with dash cam video to secure the footage and to contact us immediately.”

On Twitter someone has also reported seeing a car on fire nearby at West 20 Avenue and Crown Street, sharing video of the blaze. It appears to be in an alley; an alley runs between West 20th and West 21st.

Anyone who has dash camera footage or video from neat the Golf Course between 8 and 10 a.m. is asked to contact IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
