South Delta Crime Beat: DPD kept busy with weather-related MVAs

The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to for the week of Dec. 12 to 19. There is no Crime Beat now until the first week of January.

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to for the week of Dec. 12 to 19. There is no Crime Beat now until the first week of January.

Tsawwassen and TFN

*Dec. 12, 8:40 a.m., 3600 block of Highway 17: Police conducted a traffic stop on an erratic, speeding vehicle. The driver was issued a $368 ticket for excessive speed, and had their vehicle towed.

*Dec. 12, 2 p.m., 1600 Block 56th Street: Police were dispatched to a reported break and enter and theft after a resident found their storage locker had been broken into. The resident advised police several items were missing, including their Christmas tree.

*Dec. 17, 6:30 a.m., 2100 block Tsawwassen Drive: Transit Police located a vehicle in Richmond with keys in the ignition that was registered to an owner in Delta who was contacted by police unaware that their vehicle had been stolen.

*Dec. 17, location withheld – Police responded to a request to assist the caller with a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Police attended and took the person to hospital, where they were able to receive the care they required.

Ladner

*Dec. 12, 9 p.m., 5500 block of Ladner Trunk Road: Police conducted a traffic stop to check for sobriety after observing them make an illegal left turn. The driver admitted to drinking, and police read them the breath demand. A breath sample resulted in “WARN,” and the driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and had their vehicle towed.

*Dec. 14: Various locations throughout Delta - Police responded to 11 motor vehicle incident calls in the span of 15 minutes due to the rapidly changing weather. Police encourage everyone to drive safely, and relative to the conditions - especially if you are not accustomed to driving in snowy conditions.

*Dec. 19, 1:20 a.m., 5500 block River Road: Police conducting a road block to check for sobriety read a driver the breath demand while waiting in queue. A breath sample resulted in “WARN,” and the driver was issued a three-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, and had their vehicle driven home by a sober passenger.
