Suspect arrested after threatening elderly man with knife in Vancouver: VPD

Vancouver Police say they arrested a man for attempted robbery, assault and assault with a weapon Tuesday afternoon.

According to a release, the incident took place on June 30 just after 3:30 p.m. The suspect, a 19-year-old Surrey man, allegedly approached two men in an underground parking lot near Columbia Street and West 2nd Avenue and demanded that they give him money.

After the men called police, the suspect ran away. Following this, the suspect allegedly accosted a passenger in a stopped vehicle. However, the passenger fought the suspect off and the driver drove away.

When the responding officers arrived on scene, the suspect appeared to grab an elderly man, threatening him with a knife. Officers were able to free the victim and there were no injuries to the victim or the suspect.

The suspect was arrested and taken to jail. Charges relating to robbery, and assault with a weapon have been recommended to Crown counsel.
