Targeted Coquitlam shooting, Port Moody vehicle fire connected to gang conflict: RCMP

A man is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

A targeted shooting in Coquitlam this afternoon (March 25) has put one man in hospital.

RCMP say the incident took place after 3:30 p.m. today in the Westwood Plateau neighbourhood and while no arrests have been made, investigators say there are links to gang violence in the region.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1600-block of Chickadee Place and found a man with what were deemed as non-life threatening injuries.

He was then taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, not long after the shooting, Port Moody police (PMPD) responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle fire in the 2200-block of Hope Street — not far from Port Moody Secondary — and is believed to be connected to the shooting.

In a social media post, the PMPD say a bystander was injured from the blaze and has also been taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries.

"This has the indications of being targeted and connected to the Lower Mainland Gang conflict," says RCMP spokesperson S/Sgt. Paul Vadik in a release sent to the Tri-City News.

"Police continue to gather evidence with the aim of identifying suspects."
