Special Terry Fox edition shoes to be released this summer

The Terry Fox Orions are based on the shoes Fox wore on his Marathon of Hope

A special edition of a shoe worn by Terry Fox will be released later this summer.

Adidas is re-releasing the Orion shoe to mark the 45th anniversary of the Metro Vancouverite's epic Marathon of Hope, creating a special Terry Fox edition. The Burnaby-born Fox wore Orions on his famed run across Canada in 1980.

The Terry Fox Orions will look similar to the shoes Fox wore, but with "Terry Fox" stitched beside the three stripes and "commemorative shoelaces," according to a press release.

"It’s heart-warming to see Canadians across the country continue to resonate with Terry’s legacy more than 45 years later," says Fred Fox, Terry’s older brother, in the press release.

The limited-edition shoes will be released on July 3, at 7 a.m. Vancouver time on the Adidas Canada website. The shoes will be $145 plus taxes while supplies last. All proceeds will go to cancer research in Canada.

There was a re-release of Terry Fox Orions in 2020 to mark the 40th anniversary; the shoes quickly sold out.

The annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025; an estimated 650 communities in Canada are expected to participate, with more runs around the world.
