The City of Vancouver's bike rack design contest is down to six finalists and cyclists can try out the design prototypes from August 13 to 16.
“We have seen some very creative bike rack designs submitted by talented Vancouver residents all with a vision of making our public spaces more beautiful and interesting, while providing safe and secure places for people to park their bikes. We are so excited to be at the final stage of this competition,” says Margaret Wittgens, director of public space and street use.
The city received 450 submissions, shortlisted 30 designs for the public to vote on and now the public can test six finalist prototypes.
Here are the six finalist bike rack designs:
North Shore Mountains

The design prototypes will be available to see and vote on at the following locations:
- Adanac & Vernon Plaza on August 13
- Arbutus Greenway & 10th Avenue on August 14
- 800 Robson on August 15
- Helena Gutteridge Plaza on August 16
The winning design or designs will receive $2,000 and finalists that do not win will receive $500.
The People’s Choice winner selected at the June exhibition and August prototype showcase will also receive $200.
The winners will be announced later this summer and the new bike racks will be installed around the city in the fall.
