Third Coquitlam shooting in as many days leaves man with life-threatening injuries

Insp. Darren Carr: "These incidents are isolated, targeted and involving a small group of individuals."

Mounties are now investigating a third targeted shooting in as many days that took place in Coquitlam's City Centre neighbourhood — again.

A man was sent to hospital late Saturday afternoon, Jan. 6, with what were described as life-threatening injuries from a shooting near Westwood Street and Glen Drive before 4:15 p.m.

This after RCMP responded to shootings on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 4 and 5, but no injuries were reported from those incidents.

"We understand that these last three days have been incredibly stressful to the community and we want to assure the public that our officers are working tirelessly to advance all of these investigations," explained Coquitlam RCMP Insp. Darren Carr in a news release.

"Public safety is our top priority. These incidents are isolated, targeted and involving a small group of individuals."

RCMP's statement added that two suspects were seen "running away from the shooting scene."

Witnesses are being asked to come forward with statements or possible video footage of the Westwood-Glen shooting, including dash-cam, surveillance, CCTV and cell phone footage from between 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday, Jan. 5, at around 10:30 p.m., a victim was found uninjured from a shooting in the area of David Avenue and Mitchell Street. No one was arrested.

On Thursday afternoon, Jan. 4, two suspects were detained after a vehicle was reportedly fired upon and police found bullet holes and shell casings.

No injuries were reported, RCMP said. Roads in the area were closed off for several hours and police employed support from its Air1 helicopter as well as the canine unit (see video below).

The Coquitlam detachment's General Investigation Section has taken the lead on each case.
