Dookbaeki Korean Restaurant
Dookbaeki Korean Restaurant in Coquitlam specializes in traditional soups and stews kept hot in special bowls.

The weather is starting to cool and the leaves are beginning to fall.

It's a perfect time to explore new neighbourhood restaurants and one in particular that specializes in traditional Korean soups and stews.

Dookbaeki Korean Restaurant recently opened at 3055 Anson Ave.,Coquitlam and is sure to become a favourite in the neighbourhood, off Westwood Street, near the new Save-On-Foods in Sunwood Square.

"Soup season is here! Keep warm with Sagol-Manduguk — Beef bone soup with sliced rice cake and dumplings," the restaurant notes on Instagram.

For those looking for a hearty meal, Dookbaeki offers a number of soups and stews that blend traditional seasonings and vegetables with slow-cooked meats, such as pork and beef.

Another notable fact are the bowls the restaurant uses to keep food hot.

The bowls are made of a special clay material from loess, which is a yellowish sediment that when formed into clay and fired turns into stone bowls that are perfect for stews and soups because the stone retains the heat so the dish remains hot until you finish your meal.

The hours are:

Monday: Closed
Tuesday to Saturday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
