This Tri-Cities brewery has beer slushies — and they're keeping the community cool

Moody Ales added a slushie machine to its workforce amid the extreme heat temperatures across the region.

Moody Ales is making beer slushies over the final week of July 2022 to help local residents stay cool during the extreme heat warning.

Slushies are a summer staple — or year-round if you're a fan — to cool you off with a bounty of flavours.

Moody Ales decided to come up with a solution to the extreme heat across the Tri-Cities this week by adding a new piece of equipment that's got local residents screaming "YAAAS!" at the sight of it.

This week, the Port Moody establishment unveiled a slushie machine that's topping off its assortment of pints with a refreshing twist.

And thus, the beer slushie was born!

Interested patrons can either add one of two dairy-free flavours — apricot pear radler or non-alcoholic lime —to any of its locally-crafted beer on tap.

Moody Ales is also offering customers the chance to buy a glass of the slushie drinks on their own.

The business says it's a way to help keep the community cool as an extreme heat warning is expected to last until Sunday (July 31) for Port Moody, Anmore, Belcarra, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.

Inland temperatures are forecast to reach between 35 and 40 C with humidity and experts are encouraging everyone to stay hydrated as much as possible.

"A strong ridge of high pressure will bring a heat wave to British Columbia this week," Environment Canada's warning reads, which was issued Monday morning (July 25).

"The peak daytime high temperatures are expected from Wednesday to Friday. Then, a slow cooling trend is likely next weekend."

The response to Moody Ales' newest machine appears to be a welcomed addition to local residents' and beer-lovers' cooling strategies.

"Looks sooo good," proclaims one commenter on the business' social media post.

"Start the car," says another.

"Hmmmm excuse me?!? Who do you think you are @moodyales??? Fulfiller of all my summer dreams? Well you're right!"

Moody Ales is located along Port Moody Brewers Row at 2601 Murray St.

It's open from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday, and noon to 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday.
