Upgrades on Drake Street will block traffic on a portion of the busy Vancouver street for four weeks.
The City of Vancouver notified commuters that Drake Street will be closed between Howe and Hornby streets for four weeks starting Monday, June 23 for sewer upgrades.
Drivers are advised to "expect delays" and plan their route before moving through the busy downtown area.
The closure comes amid larger transportation upgrades on Drake Street between Burrard Street and Pacific Boulevard.
The upgrades include a two-way protected bike lane between Burrard Street and Hamilton Street, with one-way eastbound vehicle traffic only. The other is a one-way eastbound protected bike lane between Hamilton Street and Pacific Boulevard. This stretch will continue to have two-way vehicle traffic.
The city says the upgrades will provide a more convenient route for pedestrians and cyclists in the downtown area and on the upgraded Granville Street Bridge routes.
Commuters are advised of potential lane or road closures during upgrades. Work occurs between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
