Turns out Vancouverites don't like turning their clocks back

We polled V.I.A. readers to find out who is ready to ditch changing clocks back (and forward)

Should daylight saving time be a thing of the past?

With time having been backed up an hour this weekend as if Superman did a few laps around the equator, Daylight Saving Time is once again a hot topic.

The practice of dropping or gaining an hour to better align clocks with daylight has been losing popularity for some time now, so we decided poll the Internet to find out how people felt about all that.

It turns out only about one in five Vancouver residents are fans of DST, while 10 per cent don't really have an opinion. Of the votes over 500 were from around Vancouver, and those results matched up with the overall number of votes almost identically.

Oddly, according to our map of where votes came from, two people in Australia voted, and both in favour of the shifty hour. Make of that what you will (one person in New Zealand voted, as well, but against Daylight Saving Time).

Vancouver Is Awesome polled 1154 Vancouver Is Awesome readers and asked the question: Are you in favour of Daylight Saving Time?

The poll ran from 11/7/2021 to 11/12/2021. Of the 1154 votes, we can determine that 582 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Yes, I like the shift 20.62 % local, 20.19 % total
No, it makes no sense 69.24 % local, 69.50 % total
I'm indifferent 9.97 % local, 10.31 % total
  Local   Total

Results are based on an online study of adult Vancouver Is Awesome readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 2.88%, 19 times out of 20.

Vancouver Is Awesome uses a variety of techniques to capture data, detect and prevent fraudulent votes, detect and prevent robots, and filter out non-local and duplicate votes.
