Local residents called RCMP immediately after witnessing a Coquitlam assault that sent two to hospital with serious injuries.

A suspect was also quickly arrested from the incident, which is now being investigated as police say everyone involved was known to each other.

In a news release, Mounties explain they responded to calls of an assault in progress around 9 p.m. on Tuesday (May 3) at a home in the 200-block Cayer Street — located near a mobile home park in the Maillardville neighbourhood.

When police arrived, they found two victims inside with serious but non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

One person was tracked down near the residence and taken into custody without incident, says Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Paige Kuz.

"Thank you to the community members who witnessed this assault and immediately contacted police," she adds.

"Quick action and quick response lead to the suspect being taken into custody without further threat to public safety."

Kuz says investigators have since confirmed that the victims and the suspect were known to each other.

No other information is being released at this time.

Anyone with more information about the assault is encouraged to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550.
