Working out at Richmond city facilities will require showing proof of vaccination.

To take part in a fitness class or work out at a gym at a City of Richmond facility, as of Monday, be prepared to have your vaccination card handy.

This is the message from the City of Richmond as it continues to clarify the rules around where “vaccine passports” are needed and where they’re not.

B.C. has introduced vaccination passports and as of Monday, Sept. 13, they will be needed to enter restaurants, bars, sporting events, casinos, theatres and movies and a variety of other non-essential venues and events.

As of Monday, anyone older than 12 has to have one shot to enter these premises, and by Oct. 24, British Columbians will need to show they are double vaccinated.

Proof of vaccination will be needed for indoor adult sports, indoor group activities – like fitness classes – and at the gym.

However, anyone just dropping by a community centre to pick someone up or drop them off, or just spending time at the seniors centre at the Minoru Centre for Active Living won’t be required to show that they’re vaccinated.

It’s when they take part in group activities that the need for vaccination proof kicks in.

But taking a dip at the city’s pools – not considered a group activity - won’t require showing proof of vaccination.

Nor is proof of vaccination needed at libraries, the recycling depot on Lynas Lane or any of the city’s heritage sites.

Drop-in vaccination clinics are continuing at River Rock Casino until Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The casino is located at 8811 River Rd.
