A Metro Vancouver charity is providing families in need with the essentials for babies and toddlers — but they need some help.

BabyGoRound is a registered charity that provides families with essentials for their little ones, such as cribs, car seats, clothes and strollers. Operating out of a "store-like facility" on Kingsway since October 2012, the organization services a wide range of communities across the Lower Mainland.

Working with partner agencies, such as local health authorities, the organization is referred low-income families in need. And rather than giving away items "piece by piece," they provide them with kits of "everything they need" that can last up to two years.

BabyGoRound collects gently used baby gear from donor families across the Lower Mainland and then cleans and services the products before distributing them.

"The assembled kits of baby gear last up to two years, with a retail value of up to $2600, ensuring new parents have everything they need to confidently care for their babies and toddlers—and keeping used supplies out of landfills and in the hands of families in need.  They typically help about 1000 Lower Mainland families every year!" according to the organization.

But the charity is alarmingly low on some of the critical gear it provides to families.

In some instances, BabyGoRound has been forced to limit the number of appointments they can book with parents because they just don’t have enough baby gear. This means that some families won't receive the necessary supplies when they need them.

Measured against a month’s supply, the charity currently has:

  • zero diaper bags (totally out)
  • four nursing pillow (13% - a few days supply)
  • five Baby Tubs (13% - a few days supply)
  • only a handful of Bassinets (less than one week’s supply)
  • 10 infant carriers (27% - one week’s supply)
  • 10 bouncy chairs (27% - one week’s supply)
  • are very low on other things like playmats, breast pumps, etc. (less than two week’s supply)
