Vancouver firefighters blocked off a portion of a street after smoke was observed coming from an apartment building.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (VFRS) received reports about smoke coming from a building at 12th Avenue and Birch Street around 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17.

VFRS Acting Ass. Chief Chris Gill told V.I.A. that five apparatus were dispatched to the first-alarm fire but only two rigs stayed behind after firefighters assessed the scene.

"Someone left a pot on the stove and there was smoke from cooking," he explained. "There was no major fire."

Part of the street was blocked but will reopen soon.
