Metro Vancouver gas prices may drop over the Thanksgiving long weekend. Here's when

Prices are expected to drop.

Metro Vancouver gas prices continue to decline following a sharp uptick last month.

Following several increases, including one nine-cent jump, prices at gas stations across the Lower Mainland have decreased this week, and fell an average of 5.6 cents per litre overnight Thursday, Oct. 5, according to Gasbuddy.com.

As of Friday, Oct. 6, prices in the City of Vancouver averaged 188.9 cents per litre, while prices in Abbotsford are slightly lower, at 186.5 cents per litre. Prices are higher on Vancouver Island, averaging 203 cents per litre.

Earlier this week, Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, told V.I.A. that gas prices would drop several cents and may continue on a downward trend in the weeks to come.

Despite heading into the Thanksgiving long weekend, locals likely won't be gouged when they will up their tanks. Vancouver gas prices are expected to drop each day, falling by two cents per litre on Saturday. The lowest expected price at the pumps is expected to be 173.9 cents per litre, according to Gas Wizard.

While prices continue to fall across B.C., they exceed those across the rest of the country. Gas costs an average of 185.3 cents per litre in B.C., followed by Newfoundland, where prices average 182.4 cents per litre.

Alberta, on the other hand, sees the best bang for your buck, with gas prices averaging 140.6 cents per litre.

Where to find Metro Vancouver gas prices

While prices are expected to fall to 173 cents per litre in the City of Vancouver on Saturday, there are places outside of the city that are nearly that low on Friday morning.

As of 11:30 a.m., a Super Sace Gas in Langley and a Canco in Aldergrove are selling gas for 173.9 per litre, according to Gasbuddy.com

The lowest prices aren't higher in Vancouver but you'll need to shop around. The lowest prices are at the Mobil & Superstore on Marine Drive and the Esso & 7-Eleven on Marine Drive for 175.9 cents per litre.
