Vancouver Police say a Vancouver man was jailed three times over the course of 24 hours last week.

Police say the "persistent suspect" is a 42-year-old Vancouver man, and that his crimes escalated with each arrest.

Officers say they apprehended the man around 10:30 p.m. one night last week for public intoxication. They say he was stumbling down Burrard Street and blocked an ambulance, so he was taken to jail to sober up. Of course, officers didn't expect the same individual would return to jail two additional times in the next 24 hours.

Once he was sober, the man was released from jail at 7 a.m. the following morning. Only a couple of hours later, at 9:40 a.m, he was arrested again for allegedly smashing an apartment window in the End End. The resident confronted the suspect, who calmly walked away before police caught up to him.

He was taken to jail again and released by 1:20 p.m. on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date. However, this wouldn't be his final time in jail that day.

Only 30 minutes later, the suspect allegedly walked toward a woman near Georgia and Hamilton, and attempted to grab her purse. After two unsuccessful attempts, he walked away.

The victim contacted police and directed them to his whereabouts. He was arrested for robbery and is currently waiting to appear before a judge.
