Vancouver Olympic Cauldron will be relit in honour of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

See the flame lit in a free public ceremony at Jack Poole Plaza

Vancouver’s iconic Olympic Cauldron will display the Olympic flame once more to celebrate the start of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The lighting ceremony Tuesday evening (Aug. 24)  will also honour Team Canada’s achievements at the Tokyo Olympic Games and will feature members from Team Canada’s rowing and sports walking teams. Hosted by B.C. Pavilion Corporation and the Vancouver Convention Centre, the event is free to attend for the public.

“On behalf of Premier John Horgan and our entire government, we wish the best of luck to every member of Team Canada headed to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic and, in particular, the athletes with B.C. connections,” said Melanie Mark, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport in a recent media release. “You are truly an inspiration to us all, and we can't wait to cheer you on as you make your mark and go for the gold."

To catch the cauldron in action be at Jack Poole Plaza this Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
