This Vancouver restaurant's Valentine's Day promotion comes with quite the "package."
Known for their locally designed, artistic and socially conscious pizza box designs, Anthem Pizza has taken their food's packaging to a whole other level for this Valentine’s Day. The one-day special includes any pizza on the menu and will come in a box that aims to inject some humour into the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
"We sell t-shirts, we sell pizza, now we sell dildos I guess," said Matt Thompson, the restaurateur behind Anthem, Cannibal Café, Park Drive, Alphabet City, and The Five Point.
Thompson is talking about Anthem’s Valentine’s Day promotion where $75 will buy any 14” pizza on the menu and it will come in a box with a public service announcement printed on the top.

"It's a warning box essentially," said Thompson. "You can't have sex, you can't have a partner other than your partner, you're supposed to use glory holes, you can't kiss anybody you can't do all of these things."
“Stay home · Eat pizza”, and “No hugging, no kissing, no touching, yes to solo sex also known as masturbation”, are among the words of advice printed on the box.
To aid in that last part, protruding through the centre of the box is a shapely, rainbow-striped dildo.
"I just think it's fun man,” Thompson said as to why the promotion was created. “I think right now there's not a lot of fun and I think if it puts a smile on your face then that's good enough for me and if you buy one... have at 'er right?"
Thompson was quick to recognize how well the marital aid plays into the classic porno trope involving a pizza delivery guy and a lack of funds to pay for the said pizza.
Anthem Pizza’s slogan “pizza with a purpose” comes from raising awareness of social issues through their pizza boxes and where a portion of store proceeds are donated. Each quarter Anthem chooses three charities to support and until April those are the BC Children's Hospital, Movember and the Unison Benevolent Fund.
With an extremely limited supply for the Valentine’s Day special, Anthem is nearly sold out of the uniquely packaged pizzas. Due to Anthem’s "cloud kitchen" or "ghost kitchen" business model, the restaurant doesn’t actually have a storefront of its own. Orders can be made through Anthem’s social media accounts and picked up from their main location on Main Street on Valentine's Day.
