On Nov. 28, Vancouver police responded to multiple 911 calls after witnesses saw a man attack a series of people seemingly unprovoked.
The suspect reportedly slapped a woman, assaulted a cyclist, tried to attack someone who was walking with a group of people past Nester's Market, and allegedly tried to start a fight near the Metropole Pub. The man also allegedly waved around a weapon before being confronted by VPD and Transit Police and sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital and the Independent Investigations Office (IIOBC) is investigating the police-involved shooting.
Vancouver Police are now appealing to the victims and witnesses of the Gastown attacks to come forward and have released surveillance footage of one of the incidents in the hopes someone involved will share information.
“We are asking the people in this video to come forward, as not only are they victims of a crime, but they could have important information on the circumstances that led up to the assaults,” says Constable Tania Visintin in a press release.
Anyone with information is asked to call VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2541.
The IIOBC is also looking for witnesses to the incident and asks that anyone who saw the shooting contact them by phone at 1-855-446-8477 or via the IIOBC website.
