Officers with the Vancouver Police Department arrested a suspect after an arson attempt in east Vancouver.

After an incident earlier this week police arrested a man suspected of arson.

On the evening of June 15 someone noticed a man was in a construction site in East Vancouver, collecting debris. He then piled the debris and lit it all, allegedly. It was at this point the witness called 911.

Firefighters and police officers arrived; firefighters doused the fire while police searched for the suspect. They were able to find him nearby.

"He was arrested for arson and taken to jail," the Vancouver Police Department state in a press release.

They don't state whether the investigation is related to any other recent reports of arson
