Vancouver Police say they have arrested a 57-year-old man in connection with the attack of a a 24-year-old woman in the West End on Saturday night, Feb. 13.
A man suspected of attacking a 24-year-old woman in Vancouver's West End on Saturday night has been arrested, police say.

Vancouver Police Department (VPD) investigators arrested a 57-year-old man yesterday in connection with the Feb. 13. incident, police confirmed in a release issued Thursday evening, and will be recommending charges to Crown counsel.

The suspect is accused of attacking the victim on Maxine Lane at around 9:40 p.m. Saturday night, allegedly grabbing her from behind while she was walking home alone from shopping along Davie Street.

The two reportedly fell to the ground as the woman screamed. Police previously said they believe her screams scared the man off before he fled to nearby Bute Street.

The arrest comes following the police department's plea for public assistance earlier this week, after they released security footage captured of the suspect.

“Investigators are pleased with the help they have received from the public in identifying this suspect," VPD Cst. Tania Visintin said in the release.

The man was released pending his court appearance, and is subject to conditions.
