Vancouver police investigate city's ninth homicide of the year after Downtown Eastside stabbing

The victim was stabbed in early July but has now died of his injuries.

Vancouver police are investigating Vancouver's ninth homicide of the year after the victim died in hospital on July 21 after being stabbed in the Downtown Eastside early July.

A man who was stabbed on the street in the Downtown Eastside in early July died of his injuries in hospital on Thursday (July 21).

The death is Vancouver's ninth homicide of 2022, notes the Vancouver Police Department in a news elease.

Vancouver police are investigating the homicide and believe the victim, 29-year-old Zane Ponecappo, was stabbed during a confrontation near Columbia Street and East Hastings around 5 p.m. on July 9.

Ponecappo collapsed nearby and was taken to hospital, where he died Thursday evening.

Investigators have been collecting evidence since the stabbing and ask anyone with information to call VPD Homicide at 604-717-2500.
